A beautiful, snowy Thanksgiving weekend in the Catskills!
Windham Festival Chamber Orchestra
Windham Festival Chamber Orchestra is performing this Saturday at 8 pm its Annual Thanksgiving Concert at the Doctorow Center for the Arts in Hunter. The orchestra, conducted by Robert Manno, and featuring 24 musicians, will perform compositions by Vivaldi, Shulman, Mozart, Mahler and Haydn. The program includes Vivaldi’s Concerto for Two Horns and Strings, Shulman’s A Nocturne for Strings, Mozart’s Concerto No. 2 for Flute and Orchestra, and an excerpt from Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 as well as Haydn’s Symphony No. 24. Elena Zang Gallery in Woodstock is presenting a Holiday Group Show this Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 5 pm. The group show includes works by 16 visual artists including painters Pia Alexander and Joan Snyder, multi-media artist Mary Frank, and sculptor Tom Gottsleben. Also, Wired Gallery in High Falls, is hosting a traditional annual Thanksgiving show both Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm. “Affordable Color Show” features small works by 35 regional artists, including Leah Brown, Mona Chiang, Shellie David, Doris Goldberg, Marilyn Hauser, Meredith Rosier, Linda Miller, Susan Silverman, Ted Welch, Peg Wright, and others. High Falls is also home to the Delaware & Hudson Canal Museum. Cubist painter Marc Chagall lived and worked in High Falls in the late 1940s. Fenimore Art Museum
Fenimore Art Museum in Cooperstown is hosting a book signing event Friday from 11 am to 2 pm, offering popular books by 12 regional artists, including Cindy Falk, The Beekman Boys, Anna Membrino, and Richard Duncan. Books in all genres – historical fiction, children’s books, heirloom cookbooks, memoirs, locally inspired fiction, and more – will be available for sale. Basilica Farm and Flea
Basilica Farm and Flea in Hudson, inaugurated last year over Thanksgiving, is hosting its second annual event Friday from 5 to 9 pm. There will be food, cocktails, and music. Over 50 regional farmers, makers and collectors will be offering a variety of products – local food items, handcrafted goods, and vintage objects that showcase a wild assortment of local talent and resources. Also, three ski resorts in the Catskills have opened for the season: Belleayre, Windham, and Hunter. Plattekill is scheduled to open next weekend. Check them out for outdoor recreational opportunities.
